Rare Old Map of Iceland by Ortelius, 1603 - Reykjavik, Keflavik, Volcanoes, Mountains, Fjords, Glaciers, Sea Monsters tumc_poster This here is sheet 11This is one of the finest and rarest examples of the first accurate map of Iceland, originally published by Dutch mapmaker Abraham Ortelius in his 1595 edition of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum the most important collection of world maps of the 16th century. There's a remarkable amount of detail on this map, showing many of Iceland's mountains, fjords, volcanoes (check out the explosive red plume over the volcano!) rivers and villages. Like many of
