約90年前の銘仙で、緻密な船の柄や波の動きのすべてを織りで表現しています。
ほかにも松、梅、桜、楓などの柄が描かれており、松は「威厳」、梅は「学び」、桜は「潔さ」、楓は「吉兆」の意味を持つ吉祥文様です。
京都の祇園祭の山鉾は疫病や災いを鎮めるためにつくられたとされていることから、「厄除け」「魔除け」を連想させる意匠です。
