I think originally I felt I’d just discover it was by a celebrated court artist of the day and pay off my mortgage but it’s clearly not as easy as Philip Mould makes it look

looking back to the 1880s rather than the 1920s when it was probably painted

Of course that could be a previous owner or descendent as much as the name of the sitter

I love the simplicity and honesty in her painting

I absolutely adore them but they are rare and I expect one day soon a cleverer and richer dealer will root out a stash on the continent and make them very expensive overnight
