Mites (Acaridea, Plate 09) by Frederick DuCane Godman, 1879 gettysburg ceremonial edgeArachnida Acaridea Pl 09 (1879) by Frederick DuCane Godman is a beautifully restrained Victorian zoological illustration created at a moment when natural history was undergoing a golden age of classification. Godman, an English naturalist born in 1834, championed the careful documentation of the animal world; this plate reflects that mission with its clear central specimen and precise ancillary studies that record the form from multiple viewpoints.
